Wallin’ Wall: Minus One
In depth
In recent years, the Ghent Rabot district has always been given life with the Blaisantvestival. In 2016 this unfolded for the first time as the 'Blaisbattle'. A festival where numerous urban activities were jointly put in the spotlight.
Breakdance, Graffiti, Street basketball and MC-ing came together here on the site of Minus One asbl to pay homage to the HipHop culture.
With Wallin' we built a new wall here which we opened up to local and international talent.
We already received the following artists: Eyes-B, Maris, Serge KB, Simian Switch, Samor, Rim Chiaradia, Cee Pil, Gustavo Nenao, Nekvel, Tik Toy, Plur, Aphex, Kymo One, Loves, Bashado.
About the
Artists
Eyes-B, a painter and graffiti artist based in Brussels, has been drawing since he can remember. He has also now been painting for more than 10 years. He finds his inspiration in the digital arts, design and the macro use of organic elements. He has gradually developed his technique by using more of a “freestyle” approach—improvisation and spontaneity guide his work. Lately, Eyes-B has started putting his classic graffiti aside to focus on abstract painting. The readability of the letter has been replaced by a moving form, images that carry sound. Music is his work’s main driver. The rhythm shapes his strokes and dictate his movements—earning him the nickname of “the conductor ».
Serge's work is often inspired by nature and the beautiful, sometimes strange creations of nature. In his creations he often adapts these with analogue, futuristic elements. His interest in the past is reflected in his work in which he likes to paint rusted and damaged objects or walls. Drawing and designing has always been an important part of his life, he tries not to repeat it,...every wall is different.
Sammie alias Simian is an illustrator and muralist, based in a small city Dordrecht in the Netherlands. Painting since the early 2000s, the murals and illustrations produced by Simian have made a huge transformation with recognizable signature line work. His passion in the craftmanship behind arts turned his interests towards a broader field like acrylics and installations. Designing big sized decors, analog and digital studio work influenced his perspective and approach to murals and line work. He often uses a slight abstract composition using techniques from Art Nouveau and stereometry to set a certain ground for the collage-like adding of figurative space.
Cee Pil makes quality work at top speed, which makes it a pleasure to see him live somewhere. Through his experience in traditional painting and making hyper-realistic portraits of animals in particular, he is able to skillfully create this unique optical illusions. He combines several images with each other and achieves astonishing results every time.
Maarten "Loves" De Smet is originally from Dendermonde, but these days you can find him in Ghent. He completely loves the letter art that is so typical of graffiti. Now he specializes mainly in abstract works and gives his own twist to murals. He often uses black and white elements combined with a specific color to accentuate the environment.
