Dreaming — Smates
With his latest mural, Smates tells the moving story of a boy and a girl connected through an invisible dialogue.
The two monumental works adorn the façades of VZW Sint-Lievenspoort in Ghent, a place that has been supporting children and young people with hearing, speech, and communication challenges for many years.
“The walls are quite far apart, yet there’s still interaction.
It’s about dreaming and looking ahead — a girl with her airplane, a boy in his pilot suit.
When you’re in school, you’re working on your future, and dreaming is simply part of that.” - Smates

About the
Artist
SMATES is a Belgian street artist who studied graphic design at Sint-Lukas in Brussels.
Having always had a passion for realistic drawing and painting, he decided to take two years of painting classes after completing his studies.
