Hogeweg — Kitsune
A new mural in Ghent adds even more beauty to Sint-Amandsberg. The metre-high mural, created by artist Kitsune Jolene, shows two herons surrounded by bees and is located on the Hogeweg in Sint-Amandsberg.
Kitsune was given free rein to create the mural, with the only requirement being that it contained birds and had to be colourful. She is certainly no stranger to the Ghent street art scene, she has painted many other murals in the city.
About the
Artist
Kitsune Jolene (Jolien De Waele, 1992*) is an upcoming street artist, based in Ghent, Belgium. After her studies in Visual Art & Architecture and an extended period as voluntary assistant to a few artists in the world of street art, she decided to pick up the spray can at the end of 2017. Today you can find her reaching from Belgium all the way to Portugal and Dubai. Usually painting portraits of women, animals, fauna and flora infused with subtle nods to various cultures and myths. On the side she participates in working with a handful of street art minded organizations in the Benelux.

WATERWEG — Kunst langs de Gentse waterlijn
Water vormt al eeuwenlang de ruggengraat van Gent. De Leie en de Schelde tekenen niet alleen de grenzen van de stad, maar verbinden ook buurten, functies en ritmes. Met het project WATERWEG, gerealiseerd binnen het wijkbudget van de Binnenstad, werd die waterlijn tijdelijk ingezet als drager voor hedendaagse kunst.
Het uitgangspunt was eenvoudig: onderzoeken hoe kunst een betekenisvolle rol kan spelen langs de Gentse waterwegen, zonder de plek te domineren. Niet één centrale locatie, maar een reeks kleine ingrepen, verspreid langs de oevers. In de praktijk kwam de focus te liggen op het traject tussen het Patershol en De Krook.
Planned For Demolition
In een voormalige supermarkt te Gent ontstaat een tijdelijke tentoonstelling, vlak voor het gebouw verdwijnt. Kunstenaars vullen de lege muren en open ruimten met werk dat specifiek voor dit korte moment wordt gemaakt, volledig bewust van zijn vergankelijkheid. De structuur, het achtergelaten materiaal en de rauwe sfeer van het pand vormen mee het decor en de inspiratiebron.
