Karel Rymhof square
In depth

Youth Service Ghent was looking for an artist to place a ground painting on Karel Rymhof square and we were happy to help them during the search!

The square often suffers from nuisance problems and therefore creates an unsociable and unattractive environment for local residents. They were looking for a way to remedy this and at the same time increase the playability for children. By means of a colorful ground painting, they wanted to draw attention to this problem and attract children from the neighborhood to the square.

Resto got to work with this information and created a colorful, playful design. The planes represent the fantasy that children have and the 'anything is possible' principle. The different surfaces provide many play opportunities that the children themselves can determine. During the painting, children even came to play on the finished surfaces. It seems our mission is accomplished!

Can a square in your neighborhood also use some colour? Contact us for a free concept proposal!

About the
Artist

Resto (BE)

Resto (1961) palmed our country with a storm of gigantic, loving, warped, modern and mythical wonder. With vivid colors he dances through styles. He portrays giants and insane living machines, always with a wink and a comic twist. They have become infamous for their sheer size and epic nature.

Abstract Session — How it all began

Abstract Sessions originated from a simple but bold question: what happens when you dedicate an entire wall to abstract art? Together with a diverse group of artists from across Europe, we brought colour, energy and experimentation together in a unique creative process.

Street art: the street belongs to everyone

Street art has long ceased to be merely "anti" or a paragon of anarchy. Today, thanks in part to this art form, the idea that public space belongs to everyone is alive.
