In 2021, as part of its art and poetry route, Artful Gavere, the municipality of Gavere wanted to bring a beautiful series of interventions to the area using street art and other art forms. With a cycling and walking route full of new murals and creative interventions, they will help you rediscover the beautiful surroundings.
Artist Nigel Leirens kicked off the project with a first mural: two squirrels, an apple finch and a robin together on one big branch. With this work, he wanted to create a special meeting place for many. Letterknecht drew inspiration from a famous poem by Franz Kafka "A book must be the axe to the frozen sea within us" for the wall at the the local library. Kymo One concluded the first part of the project in its typically colourful style at the Archers' Club. We cannot imagine a better match!
In the second part of the art project, artists Xuas and Han Coussement painted two centrally located electricity cabins within their own unique style. In 2021, the route added no less than 5 street art interventions, from large to small. We wonder what will appear in 2022...

Xuas's paintings seem to come from a fantasy world. This experienced graffiti artist is known for his enchanting use of colour and imaginative scenes that immediately make you dream. Both on small and large surfaces his colourful style comes into its own.
The world of painting opened up to Han when he was arrested for graffiti. He had to find a way of working that did not involve fines and clean-up work. He found that freedom in the painting course.
Nowadays, he is engaged in exploring the interaction between painting on canvas and painting in the public space. He experiments with the different formats, the locations of a wall and the different techniques typical of graffiti and painting.
